"Trauma- 1832" Gouache 15 x 21" ($850.)
American History
The event: In 1832, desperate to compete with New York and Baltimore, an effort to span Pennsylvania by rail was made. It would reduce the journey to Pittsburgh from 4 days to 14 hours! Irish workers at a place known at Duffy's Gap began to die, probably of cholera. At some point, they were attacked by the East Whitland Horse Militia, fearful they were bringing disease to their community. There remain conflicting ideas as to how many died and by what means, but recent excavations indicate it was at least partially, a horrific event in the region's history...some of the exhumed bodies have what appear to be bullet holes in the skulls: "Urban Trinity": Broadcast originally on Channel 6 ABC in Philadelphia.
